Republicans on the Brink? Inside North Carolina’s High-Stakes Senate Race | Firstpost America
North Carolina last voted Democrat in a presidential election in 2008 — for Barack Obama. Donald Trump won it in 2024. But with eight days to go before the midterms, the state's open Senate seat looks like a Democratic pickup. Former two-term Governor Roy Cooper leads Republican Michael Whatley by fourteen points in the latest poll — 54% to 40%. The Senate Leadership Fund, the main Republican super PAC, pulled $18 million in planned ads on October 2nd, having already spent $32 million. Retiring Senator Thom Tillis called it a Republican "train wreck." Early voting shows Democrats casting ballots at more than two to one over Republicans. Trump rallied in Greenville last Tuesday — and was heckled. Democrats need four Senate seats to take control. North Carolina looks like one of them.
