Mizani litt an einer lebensbedrohlichen Infektion. Diese hatte sich bereits auf Teile seines Kopfes ausgebreitet. Mediziner bemerkten die Krankheit, weil sich der 140 Kilogramm schwere Gorilla häufig den Schädel hielt. Zudem konnte er den Mund nicht mehr vollständig öffnen.
Die Operation gelang. Mizani ist wieder gut drauf und lebt nun schmerzfrei weiter.
