LIVE: US Trade Team Visits India, New Delhi Rules Out Deadlines | Vantage with Palki Sharma | N18G
It's been over ten months since Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Donald Trump, and the duo promised to sign a trade deal by fall 2025. But amid new tariff threats from Washington, the deal has been seemingly delayed multiple times. A US delegation arrived in India today for the next round of negotiations — Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is optimistic about the outcome. This comes merely days after Trump threatened New Delhi with new tariffs, this time on the Indian rice exports. The US President has time and again also criticised India buying Russian oil. Meanwhile, India has already reduced its trade deficit with the US, and also diversified its energy supply. In such, is an India–US trade deal expected soon? What will it mean for the economies of the two countries? And, will Trump roll back his tariffs altogether? On Vantage tonight, Palki Sharma tells you more.
