Il 13 ottobre 2025, a Sharm el-Sheikh, è stato firmato l’accordo di pace tra Israele e Hamas, un evento che segna la fine di due anni di guerra nella Striscia di Gaza. Il presidente Donald Trump ha presieduto la cerimonia insieme al presidente egiziano al-Sisi, al turco Erdogan e al premier del Qatar, mediatori dell’intesa. L’accordo, salutato come “una nuova alba per il Medio Oriente”, ha previsto il rilascio di 20 ostaggi israeliani, la liberazione di quasi 2.000 prigionieri palestinesi e l’apertura dei corridoi umanitari. Hamas ha accettato un cessate il fuoco e un impegno alla ricostruzione, sebbene restino interrogativi sulla futura governance di Gaza e sul ritiro israeliano definitivo.
L’operazione di Trump non è soltanto diplomatica: è politica e simbolica. In pochi mesi il presidente ha ribaltato il paradigma che per anni aveva diviso l’Occidente: l’idea che la sua leadership fosse incompatibile con la complessità internazionale. Firmando un accordo che nemmeno i predecessori più esperti avevano potuto garantire, Trump ha sottratto alla sua opposizione la principale piattaforma di critica: quella morale e razionale della “competenza diplomatica”. Là dove l’élite liberal vedeva un outsider rumoroso, il Tycoon ha costruito un processo di pace pragmatico, partendo da rapporti bilaterali mediati, non da visioni ideologiche. Ha parlato direttamente con Hamas, ha imposto negoziati accelerati e ha posto fine a un conflitto che aveva devastato Gaza e logorato Israele.
