Micron’s $50 Billion Buildout In Its Hometown Of Boise Is Minting Millionaires
Micron was founded in the basement of a dental office in Boise, Idaho, nearly 50 years ago and has remained an under-the-radar semiconductor company for decades. Now, suddenly it’s minting millionaires and spending $50 billion to build new factories that are transforming its hometown into America's latest boomtown. Unprecedented demand for memory has increased its stock value more than 10-fold since 2024. Sprawling homes are selling above listing price and Idaho has the fastest statewide population growth in the country. CNBC talked to wealth managers and real estate agents who now primarily work with Micron employees, jewelry store owners who say business is booming, and other Boise locals concerned about increasing traffic and strain on infrastructure, power and water.Chapters:
