China’s ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, said on Thursday that Beijing opposes the 50% tariffs imposed by the United States on Indian goods. He stated that the US has been using tariffs on other countries to demand exorbitant prices. Feihong added that China will support India in upholding the multilateral trading system under the World Trade Organization. He also emphasised that China and India can cooperate on trade and achieve better outcomes together. The ambassador said Beijing welcomes more Indian enterprises to invest in China and Indian commodities to enter the country’s market. In return, he urged India to provide a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises operating in India. This statement follows US President Trump’s decision to significantly raise tariffs on India in response to its increased trade with Russia, including imports of Russian crude oil.---
