Le président argentin ultralibéral a taillé dans les budgets de la protection de l’environnement et notamment dans celui du plan de dépollution du Riachuelo, la rivière qui traverse Buenos Aires.Les progrès accomplis sont pourtant spectaculaires.
Le Riachuelo a entamé sa métamorphose. Cette rivière a longtemps été considérée comme l’un de cours d’eau les plus pollués au monde. Un égout à ciel ouvert de plus de 60 kilomètres de long, où vivent 5 millions d’habitants. En 2008, la justice argentine a contraint les autorités à lancer un vaste plan de dépollution. Les travaux, réalisés sous la supervision de la Cour suprême, ont permis une amélioration spectaculaire. Mais depuis l’arrivée au pouvoir du président ultralibéral et climatosceptique Javier Milei en décembre 2023, et la baisse drastique des dépenses publiques, de nombreux pans de ce plan de dépollution sont en suspens. Et les riverains s’en inquiètent. D’autant que la justice a levé son contrôle judiciaire. Le Riachuelo n’est pas encore sauvé.
