WALZER IM ALL: ESA schickt Johann Strauß' berühmten Donauwalzer an die Weltraumsonde Voyager 1Ein musikalisches Meisterwerk macht sich auf den Weg in die Tiefen des Universums: Zum 200. Geburtstag von Johann Strauß (Sohn) haben die Wiener Symphoniker den weltberühmten Donauwalzer im Museum für angewandte Kunst live aufgeführt – mit einem besonderen Ziel: das Weltall. Die Aufnahme des Konzerts wurde digitalisiert und wird nun über eine 35 Meter große Antenne der ESA in Spanien Richtung Raumsonde Voyager 1 gesendet.
Bereits 1968 wurde der Walzer durch Stanley Kubricks Film 2001: Odyssee im Weltraum zur inoffiziellen Hymne des Alls. Doch bei der legendären Goldenen Schallplatte, die 1977 mit der Voyager 1 startete, fehlte das Werk – damals wählte man u.a. Bach, Beethoven und Mozart. Das Versäumnis wird jetzt symbolisch korrigiert.
Die ESA rechnet damit, dass das Signal die Raumsonde in knapp 23 Stunden und 3 Minuten erreicht – trotz ihrer Entfernung von rund 25 Milliarden Kilometern. ESA-Chef Josef Aschbacher zeigt sich optimistisch: „Elektromagnetische Wellen reisen mit Lichtgeschwindigkeit. Wir holen Voyager also ein.“
So wird im All nicht nur Johann Strauß gefeiert, sondern gleichzeitig 50 Jahre ESA – im Dreivierteltakt.
