Den erst in der Nachspielzeit verpassten Deutschland-Sieg bei seinem Bundestrainer-Debüt trauerte Jürgen Klopp nicht lange nach. „Ich hätte super gerne gewonnen, aber ich kann mit dem Punkt auch leben“, sagte Klopp nach dem 1:1 (1:0) zum Auftakt der Nations League in Amsterdam gegen die Niederlande.Beide Teams hätten unter Beweis stellen wollen, „dass es nicht ganz so schlecht ist, wie es gerade gesehen wird. Und das hat man dem Spiel angemerkt“, sagte der 59-Jährige. Er sei mit „vielen Einzelleistungen sehr, sehr, sehr zufrieden“, betonte der Nachfolger von Julian Nagelsmann. Auch mit der an den Tag gelegten Leidenschaft sei er einverstanden. Aber er sagte ebenso: „Wir können besser und mehr Fußball spielen, ganz bestimmt.“
Felix Nmecha (32.) brachte Deutschland in der stimmungsvollen Johan Cruyff Arena beim Auftakt in die Gruppenphase der Nations League in Führung. Cody Gakpo (90.+2) verhinderte mit seinem Tor für Oranje aber einen Traumstart für Klopp.
