Live from Mount Arafat where officials say more than 1.5 million pilgrims have gathered for this year's Hajj, with the area holding immense significance in Islam.

ARAFAT, SAUDI ARABIA - Muslim pilgrims start arriving in Arafat near Mecca ahead of the start of Arafa Day
Muslim pilgrims are currently streaming into the plains of Mount Arafat, near Mecca, marking the spiritual climax of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. Millions of worshippers are gathering at the sacred site for Wuquf (the standing in vigil), engaging in intense prayer, supplication, and reflection on the Day of Arafat.

Key Details of the Arafat Gathering
The Spiritual Pinnacle: Standing on the plains of Arafat is considered the absolute core of the Hajj; without this ritual, the pilgrimage is deemed invalid.

The Journey: Prior to Arafat Day, pilgrims spent the previous night in the tent city of Mina for the Day of Tarwiyah, before embarking on the 20-kilometer (12-mile) journey to Arafat.

Crowd Management: Saudi authorities have implemented extensive crowd-control measures, transportation logistics, and emergency cooling services to manage the millions of attendees amid the desert heat.

Next Steps: Following the afternoon of prayers, worshippers will remain on the mountain until sunset. They will then proceed to Muzdalifah to spend the night and collect pebbles for the symbolic Stoning of the Devil (Jamarat) rituals in the coming days.
