Websites should only store what’s called a one-way hash of your password, not the password itself. The original password cannot be determined from its hashed value. If a site can tell you your password, they’re doing security wrong. When you hear about a data breach, pay attention to whether the password information is hashed or not. If it wasn’t hashed, that implies your password, if it was part of the breach, is out there for anyone to see.
