Oregon looks like two completely different planets stuck together. On one side, lush green rainforests fed by endless ocean storms. On the other, a dry, alien wasteland that looks more like Mars than America. Drive just a few hours east, and the green vanishes. The reason? A massive tectonic collision deep underwater is shoving the ocean floor under the continent, pushing up explosive volcanoes. They block all the moisture, turning one half of the state into a desert. But that's not even the wildest part. Underneath that desert lies an ancient sea of frozen magma - the remains of one of the most violent volcanic events in Earth's history.
