Etwa die Hälfte aller Alleinerziehenden sind vom sogenannten Unterhaltsvorschuss abhängig. Das heißt: Weil das andere Elternteil nichts zahlt, muss der Steuerzahler einspringen. Im Jahr 2024 waren das 3,2 Milliarden. Die Ämter sind zwar verpflichtet, sich das Geld vom säumigen Elternteil zurückzuholen, doch das gelingt ihnen kaum. Auf knapp 2,7 Milliarden blieb der Staat allein im letzten Jahr sitzen. Die "Umschau" geht den Ursachen nach, schaut, wie im europäischen Ausland mit Unterhaltsschuldnern umgegangen wird und zeigt Lösungsansätze. Dabei berichten wir über den Fall einer dreifachen Mutter aus Leipzig, deren Ex-Partner sich trotz Immobilien und Luxusauto arm rechnen konnte, sowie über eine zweifache Mutter aus Berlin, die mit einer Petition die Politik unter Druck setzt. Wieder entbrennt die Debatte um einen Führerscheinentzug als Druckmittel.
