Here are the latest major global headlines.Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Bishkek. The meeting is expected to focus on India-Russia strategic ties and comes ahead of Putin’s anticipated visit to New Delhi for the BRICS Summit.
During his recent Uzbekistan visit, PM Modi was also conferred the Order of Oliy Darajali Dustlik, Uzbekistan’s supreme state award, by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Meanwhile, leaders are arriving in Bishkek for the SCO Summit, with Kyrgyzstan rolling out a special welcome for Chinese President Xi Jinping. PM Modi is also expected to arrive in Bishkek shortly.
In Nepal, the death toll from severe flooding along the Nepal-China border has climbed to 788. Rescuers continue searching devastated neighbourhoods for survivors, while fresh river flooding is adding to the misery in affected districts. A suspension bridge linking the affected areas has also been washed away.
In the United States, President Donald Trump says oil from a recently announced deal with Venezuela will be used to replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which has been significantly drawn down in recent years.
Meanwhile, a ferry carrying around 260 people has capsized off the coast of northern Cyprus. More than 180 people have reportedly been rescued, while several people remain missing.
