A blizzard struck Mount Everest’s eastern slopes in Tibet’s Tingri County during China’s Golden Week holiday, trapping nearly 1,000 trekkers in the Karma Valley. Snowfall reached about one metre near the Kangshung face, with winds affecting altitudes above 4,900 metres. Hundreds of Tibetan villagers and emergency teams joined rescue operations, helping more than 350 trekkers reach Qudang. Access to the Everest Scenic Area was suspended. The same weather system also affected Nepal and India, causing floods and landslides. Search and rescue operations on Everest are ongoing.---
