Saudi Arabia has accused Yemen-based, Iran-aligned Houthis of attacking an electricity distribution station in Medina, one of Islam’s holiest cities. According to the Saudi-led coalition, a drone struck the Taibah electricity distribution station on September 29, damaging one transformer. Saudi authorities said the wider electricity network and power supply to the Prophet’s Mosque were not disrupted. The Houthis have denied the accusation.
The latest development comes only weeks after Saudi Arabia accused the Houthis of launching a drone toward Mecca, an allegation the Houthis also denied. The two incidents have intensified concerns over the escalation of the Saudi-Houthi conflict and the security of Islam's two holy cities.
