'I Want Justice for My Son': Ghana Mother Flies to US After Trump's Help | Firstpost Africa
Watch this video as Firstpost explains how the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong while walking to school in the Bronx has sent shockwaves through communities from New York to Ghana. Following a direct appeal from New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani to US President Donald Trump, the teen’s grieving mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, was granted an emergency visa to travel to the United States for her son's funeral. Javits, who moved to New York from Ghana just a year prior with dreams of becoming a medical doctor, was chased down and killed by unidentified assailants, sparking widespread outrage and intense debates over gun violence, youth safety, and immigrant welfare. As the police hunt three teenage suspects captured on surveillance footage, the Ghanaian government, led by Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has stepped in with vital consular and legal support. With Gyamfi's arrival in New York, international pressure mounts on authorities to ensure a transparent investigation and deliver swift justice.
