Nifty and Bank Nifty spent the entire session under pressure — and then the last five minutes rewrote the day. MSCI's August rebalancing landed on top of the new Closing Auction Session, and Bank Nifty exploded 627 points in the auction window to close at 58,024.95, up 528 points or 0.92%. In this video we decode exactly how that happened.First, the three shocks that dragged markets down through the day: a fresh US strike on Iran's Larak Island that pushed crude back above $90, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh signalling a possible rate hike at Jackson Hole (September odds jumped from 35% to nearly 60%), and the surprise resignation of HDFC Bank's MD & CEO with no successor named.
Then the real story — the closing auction. Out of 210 stocks in the CAS, 59 closed pinned at their ±3% price band, and those names carried 65% of the ₹39,718 crore that cleared in the window.
