«Per la prima volta in Italia è stato eseguito un trapianto da donatore a cuore fermo, prelevandolo all'estero, in Svizzera». Nuova impresa compiuta dal professor Gino Gerosa, direttore dell’unità operativa complessa di Cardiochirurgia dell’Azienda Ospedaliera, che ha guidato l’équipe – tutta padovana – che nei giorni scorsi ha effettuato per la prima volta anche in Svizzera un espianto a cuore fermo, portando poi l’organo all’ombra del Santo per trapiantarlo in un paziente 50enne. «Anche in Svizzera» perché tale complessa procedura è stata messa a punto in Italia proprio dal professor Gerosa: era l’11 maggio 2023, e da allora questa metodologia era stata replicata per ben 90 volte in diversi ospedali dello Stivale. Ora, invece, Gino Gerosa e il suo team hanno varcato anche i confini elvetici per prelevare il cuore non più battente da oltre venti minuti dal corpo di un uomo deceduto a causa di un arresto cardiaco: a quel punto l’équipe ha fatto prima «ripartire» l’organo utilizzando una macchina per la circolazione extracorporea e quindi, una volta perfuso, lo hanno trasportato a Padova per il successivo trapianto. «Abbiamo dimostrato - ha spiegato Gerosa - che un cuore mantenuto oltre dieci ore in una macchina per la perfusione ex vivo può essere trapiantato con successo.
