Trump halts planned Iran attack after Gulf leaders intervene amid diplomatic efforts

US President Donald Trump says he has postponed a planned military attack on Iran following appeals from Gulf leaders including Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Trump said the strike had been scheduled for “tomorrow” but was halted to allow more time for negotiations with Tehran.
In a Truth Social post, he said Gulf leaders believed a deal acceptable to both the United States and the wider Middle East could still be reached.
Trump stressed that any agreement must ensure Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons.
He added that Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and senior US military commanders had been ordered to remain ready for a “full, large scale assault” if talks fail.
The move appears to signal a temporary pause rather than a cancellation of military action against Iran.
Despite major differences between Washington and Tehran, Gulf intervention has opened a diplomatic window for further negotiations.
Trump warned the US could move ahead with military action at short notice if discussions fail to produce an acceptable agreement.
