India is taking a closer look at food standards, as questions emerge over double standards in global food brands, food safety and nutrition labelling. Nutrition advocate Revant Himatsingka, known as FoodPharmer, has raised concerns over differences in product formulations sold in India and other markets, including sugar, cocoa and milk content. In Maharashtra, Tukaram Mundhe, Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, is leading a major crackdown on restaurants and food businesses, with thousands of raids targeting hygiene violations, expired food and other issues.
