Britain To Grant Troops Authority To Shoot Down Drones Over Military Sites | Spotlight | N18G

Britain announced plans to give its armed forces new powers to bring down drones threatening military bases. Defence Secretary John Healey said the government is developing legal provisions under the upcoming Armed Forces Bill to allow troops a “kinetic option” to shoot down hostile drones. The move comes amid increasing airspace violations and drone incursions across Europe, including alleged Russian activity near Poland and Estonia. Healey said the powers aim to help Britain respond faster to emerging threats while maintaining collective defence with NATO partners. The proposal could later extend to civilian sites if drone risks grow.
