Il 4 ottobre Donald #Trump ha annunciato la Super Intelligence Force, una task force guidata dal direttore della National Intelligence Jay Clayton, con 120 giorni per valutare rischi e opportunità dell’intelligenza artificiale. L’obiettivo è mantenere il vantaggio sulla Cina: “la Cina ci raggiungerà facilmente”, aveva avvertito il presidente a proposito della corsa all’IA. Al vertice di Washington del 24-25 settembre i due Paesi hanno concordato un nuovo dialogo sul tema. Pechino resta centrale nella raffinazione delle terre rare, indispensabili all’hardware.

La fame di energia

“È fondamentale”, risponde Michele #Kettmajer, esperto di intelligenza artificiale, sul peso strategico dell’IA, perché “i computer che calcolano l’intelligenza artificiale consumano davvero tantissima energia”. Da qui, a suo avviso, un’altra lettura delle mosse americane: “non è solo predominio territoriale o così via, ci sono dietro delle spinte molto forti”. Il fabbisogno si traduce in scelte concrete delle big tech: nella Rift Valley “stanno iniziando a comperare migliaia e migliaia di ettari di terreno”, e “La Norvegia è ottima perché è molto fredda” per ospitare i data center. Negli #StatiUniti, aggiunge, alcune comunità dicono: “non vogliamo questo modello estrattivo così potente a livello energetico e di acqua nel nostro territorio”.
