Do our burial laws still make sense? | Jonathan White | TEDxLatymer Upper School
In this talk, Jonathan White explores the changing landscape of bereavement and our evolving connection to the spaces we leave behind. He examines the history and architecture of municipal cemeteries, which are increasingly reaching capacity under current legal restrictions on site reuse. By reflecting on the nature of personal grief and the potential for these shared spaces, he advocates for a thoughtful re-evaluation of burial laws to give these grounds a meaningful future. After starting out in a career in publishing, Jonny White taught Arab and Iranian history in Cairo for a number of years. Now Head of History at Latymer Upper School, he also holds a Master's degree in architectural history, and leads esoteric walking tours in his beloved London. A father of two, he lost his teenage son to a brain tumour in 2022 and has raised over £100 000 for the Brain Tumour Charity and also other charities that support bereaved parents, including the Child Bereavement Charity. He also sings tenor for the renowned London-based chamber choir Canticum who have inaugurated an annual blue ribbon carol service in the City for these causes. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx Receive SMS online on sms24.me
