Hablamos con el activista Saif Abukeshek, ciudadano español de origen palestino, acerca de su experiencia de pasar diez días retenido en Israel tras ser apresado en aguas internacionales. Abukeshek era uno de los 175 activistas internacionales que navegaban hacia Gaza como parte de la Flotilla Global Sumud la cual, a lo largo de los años, ha hecho varios intentos de romper el bloqueo marítimo que ejerce Israel sobre Gaza y entregar ayuda humanitaria al pueblo palestino.
Abukeshek y el activista brasileño Thiago Ávila fueron los únicos miembros de la flotilla a quienes se llevaron detenidos para ser “interrogados” dentro de Israel, donde denuncian haber sufrido graves abusos físicos. Abukeshek, quien se comunica con Democracy Now! desde Turquía, señala que tener doble nacionalidad les brindó cierta protección al concitar la atención internacional. “Imaginen cómo se trata a los [presos] palestinos. Imaginen las violaciones [de derechos humanos] que se están cometiendo contra las personas de Palestina”, enfatiza.
