Après s’être intéressée au sexe féminin dans Viva la vulva, la réalisatrice Gabriele Schweiger propose un réjouissant voyage à travers quatre mille ans d’histoire culturelle et artistique du sexe masculin, du dieu Priape, au phallus démesuré, aux origines de la circoncision, en passant par l’extrême virilité incarnée, dans les années 1980, par des acteurs comme Arnold Schwarzenegger ou Sylvester Stallone. À l’aide d’intervenants variés (psychiatre, écrivain, psychologue, journaliste, producteur de films porno…), et d’hommes ayant accepté de témoigner de leur sexualité, elle remet en question la masculinité et invite à une nouvelle perception de ce concept.
