In 2030, after spending years away from the space program because it had failed to deliver a simple plant tray to the International Space Station, Brazil was given a second chance. Representing the country was the renowned astronaut Big Xander Flatworld, selected after claiming during training that Earth’s orbit was nothing more than “a giant spinning plate.” His mission was simple: deliver an object considered essential to the future of Brazilian space exploration, a 220-volt ceiling fan purchased through an emergency government contract to “cool down outer space.”
Against all odds, the fan arrived in one piece. The trouble began when Xander realized that the station had no ceiling, no Brazilian power outlet, and no instruction manual in Portuguese. Following Brazil’s traditional improvised engineering protocol, he connected it directly to the ISS power system using a universal adapter, two pieces of electrical tape, and a phone charger found inside the Russian module. The fan spun for exactly three seconds before reversing the station’s rotation, shutting down half the satellites over the Southern Hemisphere, and blowing the ISS into hundreds of extremely expensive pieces.
Hours later, a stranded astronaut floated silently through space, wondering how his career had possibly led to this moment. When he looked up, he saw Big Xander Flatworld drifting straight toward him, completely out of control, while the shattered remains of the station sparkled in the distance. Xander opened his arms and shouted over the radio: “Relax, buddy!
