Shaima Al-Obaidi on the conflict in Gaza | In Their Words

Earlier this year, Save the Children’s Senior Media Manager Shaima Al-Obaidi travelled to Gaza during the brief pause in hostilities to bear witness to what children and families are enduring under the weight of war.

In this powerful interview, she shares what she saw on the ground: stories of survival, loss, resilience, and the strength of children caught in the crossfire of an unrelenting war they’ve played no part in.

—————

Children in Gaza are terrified; terrified that they may be killed at any moment; terrified that the lives of their loved ones might be imminently stolen; terrified of not knowing where they’ll be if they survive the day; terrified that they may not be able to find any more food to satiate their hunger or water to quench their thirst. This cannot be what world powers allow children to endure.

The Government of Israel must lift the siege and allow the safe, unobstructed delivery of aid across Gaza.

Every child should have safe access to the essential humanitarian aid and services they need to survive. The denial of humanitarian aid is a crime and a grave violation against children.

The UK Government cannot stand by while Gaza’s children are starved in plain sight.  They must hold the Government of Israel accountable for the harm children have faced, as is demanded by their obligations under international law.
