Pihak UGM menegaskan bahwa pembatalan acara tersebut karena dua alasan, yaitu prosedural dan politis.
Juru bicara UGM I Made Andi Arsana dalam keterangan tertulisnya mengatakan, pihaknya tak mau terseret lebih jauh terkait dengan isu yang melibatkan Presiden ke-7 RI Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Menurut Andi, UGM tak mau terlibat karena tak terkait langsung dengan isu tersebut.
Sementara terkait prosedural, Andi menyebut perencanaan acara tak seusai dengan kaidah yang berlaku di unit usaha UGM.
Pasalnya, sejak awal UGM tak mendapat informasi yang benar terkait acara yang akan digelar.
Informasi valid soal acara peluncuran buku Jokowi's White Paper baru diterima oleh UGM belakangan.
Andi berujar, UGM pada dasarnya menghormati aspirasi tiap warga negara dalam menyampaikan pandangan, namun pihaknya menolak dilibatkan dengan cara yang tak sesuai prosedur.
Ditegaskan oleh Andi bahwa UGM berkomitmen mendukung pertukaran gagasan yang sehat dan positif serta menjaga kondisi masyarakat.
Sebagai informasi, buku Jokowi's White Paper ditulis oleh Roy Suryo, Rismon Sianipar, dan dokter Tifa.
Buku 700 halaman ini berisi penelitian-penelitian ilmiah dari ketiga orang tersebut untuk mengungkap
