Flying the Boeing 737 MAX with Oman Air (Cockpit)
Join us in the cockpit for a nearly six-hour flight from Muscat to Phuket aboard the Boeing 737 MAX 8, and our first flight with Oman Air.Check out our Flightradar24 premium subscription plans: https://www.flightradar24.com/premium
Our route takes us across India and the Bay of Bengal. The crew has to manage a brief stretch outside radar coverage and communicate over HF radio, and we also look at what it means to fly under ETOPS rules during the second half of the flights. Along the way, we give an Emirates A380 a wide berth to avoid wake turbulence, hear the pilots work through radio issues, and the icing on the cake: we encounter St Elmo’s Fire as we skirt thunderstorms while approaching the Thailand coast.
Also see how the 737 MAX flight deck is very small and old-school, aside from the big new LED screens! Compared to an A320 it's a very different experience.
There’s also a special milestone on this flight: it’s the Second Officer’s first commercial rotation after completing line training. After landing in Phuket, we bring you some action from the beach where the planes take off overhead, we get caught in another rainstorm (the tropics, what can you do) and then we return with the same crew the following day for a beautiful night landing back in Muscat.
Come along for the flight deck, the weather, the Phuket approach and a closer look at the Oman Air 737 MAX 8.
