Provincia di Cosenza, Statale 106, altezza di Amendolara. Un minivan con a bordo sette braccianti stranieri si ferma in un’area di servizio. Tra loro ci sono due caporali pakistani: uno dei due versa benzina nel portabagagli, mentre l’altro blocca la portiera per impedire agli altri di scendere. Muoiono in quattro, bruciati vivi. Il sopravvissuto racconterà che vivevano in uno stato di schiavitù, in dieci in una stanza, e che alla base dell’aggressione ci sarebbero state le richieste di ricevere le paghe e di condizioni di vita più umane. Siamo stati a Villapiana, nelle case dove vivevano questi braccianti e i loro caporali, scoprendo che c'è chi, ancora oggi, vive in quegli alloggi sovraffollati. Il racconto di una tragedia che va oltre la cronaca cercando di chiedere conto alle istituzioni della situazione e aprire uno squarcio sul sistema del caporalato in Italia.
