Des fouilles récentes dans les monuments de Cnossos, Phaistos et Sissi ont permis de décoder les somptueux et complexes édifices construits en Crète par la civilisation minoenne, entre 3000 et 1400 avant notre ère.
La Crète fut le berceau de la première grande civilisation du monde grec : les Minoens. Premier peuple européen à maîtriser l’écriture, ceux-ci ont construit de somptueux édifices dont l’architecture complexe et monumentale n’a cessé d’interroger les archéologues. Les mythes grecs ont ainsi longtemps été exploités pour expliquer ces structures. Des fouilles récentes dans les monuments de Cnossos, Phaistos et Sissi ont finalement abouti au décodage de ces édifices, notamment grâce à la syntaxe spatiale. Cette méthode révolutionnaire permet de déduire l’usage d’un bâtiment en analysant son accessibilité et les connexions entre les pièces qui le composent.
