The Boyaner Rebbe, HaRav Nachum Dov Brayer traditionally lights the first bonfire at the annual Lag B'Omer celebration at the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai in Meron, Israel. This privilege was purchased by HaRav Avrohom Yaakov Friedman Zt''l, the first Sadigura Rebbe, from the Sephardic guardians of Meron and Safed; the Sadigura Rebbe bequeathed this honor to his eldest son, HaRav Yitzchok Zt''l, the first Boyaner Rebbe, and his progeny. The first hadlakah is attended by hundreds of thousands of people each year.Lag Ba’Omer is the 33rd day of the 50 day count between the holiday of Pesach (Passover), at which time the Israelite's were freed from slavery in Egypt, and the holiday of Shavuot, at which time they received the Torah at Mount Sinai. However, it is also the day of the passing of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai.
Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai (sometimes known by the acronym Rashbi), was a rabbi in the time of the Mishna, after the destruction of the Second Temple. The pre-eminent disciple of the great Rabbi Akiva, he was – like his predecessor – a vocal opponent of the Roman occupation of the Land of Israel, and was forced to go into hiding for 13 years with his son, Rabbi Eliezer, in order to avoid imprisonment by the Romans.
However, Rabbi Shimon’s foremost legacy is the Zohar, the fundamental work of the Kabbalah, the teachings of Jewish mysticism. It is primarily for this reason that the day of his passing is celebrated by the Jewish people. Tradition records that on the day of his death, Rabbi Shimon revealed to his students the deepest secrets of mysticism, causing a day which would have been sorrowful and bitter to become a day of celebration and rejoicing.
Moreover, prior to this day, the 33rd day of the Omer corresponded to the end of a plague which ravaged the 24,000 students of Rabbi Akiva (though some interpretations say many of the students died participating in the Bar Kochba rebellion against the Romans, an effort in which Rabbi Akiva was a leading figure), causing the day to be one of celebration independent of a relationship to Rabbi Shimon
אירוע ההדלקה המרכזי והראשון במתחם הרשב"י במירון, היה של חסידות באיאן. כ"ק האדמו"ר עלה על גג הציון, להדלקה המסורתית, ומסביבו החסידים הנעימו בזמירות ובריקודים. אלפי עיניים היו נשואות לעבר כ"ק האדמו"ר, כשהוא מתכונן ומכוון כוונות ארוכות ברגעים שלפני ההדלקה.

הראשון שזכה בשליחות, היה הרה"צ רבי אהרן ברנדוין זצ"ל שהיה גם נכד אחותו של הסבא קדישא מרוזין והתגורר בצפת. לאחר פטירתו, היה השליח – רבי רפאן זילברמן, רבה של צפת, שנתמנה כשליח של אדמו"ר הזקן מסדיגורא, ואחריו כשליח של רבי יצחק מבאיאן. לאחר פטירתו כיהן ברבנות צפת במשך שנים נכדו, הגה"ח רבי אברהם לייב זילברמן, והיה שליחו של הרבי מבאיאן-טשערנוביץ. משפחת זילברמן היו קשורים מאוד לאדמו"רי בית רוז'ין ובמיוחד לרבי משטעפינעשט.
כשלושים שנה הדליק הרב זילברמן את ההדלקה המסורתית. שנים אחר-כך היה זה הרב שמחה קפלן.
הצאצא הראשון לבית רוז'ין בהדלקה
עם זאת, מבדיקת תאריכי השנים מתברר שיותר מ-70 שנה חלפו מאז רכש הסבא קדישא מרוז'ין את זכות ההדלקה, ועד שאחד מצאצאיו, אכן הדליק את המדורה בפועל.
ממסמכים שונים שהתגלו לאחרונה מתברר שהאדמו"ר רבי אברהם יהושע העשיל מקאפיטשניץ היה הראשון שהשתתף בהדלקה במירון. בשנת תרפ"ו, והוא עדיין לא מכהן כאדמו"ר, החליט לעלות לביקור בארץ ישראל. רבי אברהם הגיע לארץ בחודשי הקיץ והשתתף בהדלקה במירון.
כשחזר לביתו שבווינה, סר מיד לבן דודו האדמו"ר רבי מנחם נחום מבאיאן-טשערנוביץ, וסיפר לו על חוויותיו הנרגשות מהביקור בארץ ישראל ובמיוחד במה שנעשה במירון. הוא הצליח כל-כך לרגשו, עד שהחליט גם הוא לעלות לחונן את הארץ. ואכן, בשנה שלאחר מכן, שנת תרפ"ז הגיע בתחילת חודש אייר לארץ, ולראשונה הדליק אדמו"ר מגזע באיאן את ההדלקה. תיאורים רבים ומכתבים וכן תמונות נותרו מאותו ביקור היסטורי.
מספר שנים לאחר מכן, בשנת תרצ"ג, עלה לארץ אחיו, האדמו"ר מבאיאן-לעמברג הי"ד, ואף הוא הדליק את ההדלקה במירון. אח נוסף שכיהן כאדמו"ר מבאיאן בליפציג, שעלה והתיישב בתל אביב, הדליק בשנת ת"ש.
האדמו"ר רבי מרדכי שלמה מבאיאן, סבו של האדמו"ר הנוכחי מבאיאן, שהתגורר בארה"ב, הדליק רק פעמיים – בשנים תש"ט ותש"כ. האדמו"ר מקאפיטשניץ זצ"ל ביקר פעמים נוספות בארץ ישראל, ובשליחותו של בן דודו האדמו"ר מבאיאן בארה"ב, הדליק בשנים תש"י ותשי"ח.
גם האדמו"ר רבי מרדכי שלום יוסף מסדיגורא הדליק באחת השנים.
באותן שנים שלא היו בארץ אדמו"רי בית באיאן, לא רצו אדמורי"ם אחרים להדליק ולגעת בחזקה השייכת לאדמו"רי באיאן. כך, למשל, אדמור"י בית הוסיאטין וכן בעל ה'אביר יעקב' מסדיגורא, לא הסכימו מעולם להדליק.
