Bugün sınırımızın hemen ötesindeki ama arka planını aslında hiç bilmediğimiz ülkeye; Yunanistan’a gidiyorum.
Dışarıdan bakıldığında bembeyaz adaları, masmavi denizleri ve bitmek bilmeyen eğlencesiyle kusursuz bir tatil cenneti gibi görünen bu ülke, yakın geçmişte modern dünyanın gördüğü en ağır ekonomik çöküşlerden birini yaşadı. Bankalar kapandı, insanlar kendi parasını çekebilmek için ATM önlerinde uzun kuyruklara girdi, maaşlar kesildi, vergiler arttı ve yüz binlerce genç ülkeyi terk etti.
Cevabını merak ettiğim soru şu; binlerce yıl önce dünyaya felsefeyi, bilimi ve demokrasiyi armağan eden bu ülke nasıl oldu da Avrupa’nın en borçlu ülkelerinden birine dönüştü? İnsanlar bugün bu krizin gölgesinde nasıl bir yaşam sürüyor?
