India and the United States postponed key trade talks scheduled for February 23rd in Washington DC after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that President Donald Trump overstepped his authority in imposing sweeping global tariffs. The interim trade pact between New Delhi and Washington was based on Trump's broader tariff framework and was awaiting legal finalisation. While both sides had agreed in principle, the agreement had not yet been formally signed. The US had reduced tariffs on Indian goods from 50% to 18%, with India expected to open its markets in return after signing. With legal uncertainty now clouding the tariff structure, negotiations are on hold. Meanwhile, India’s Congress party has demanded that the deal be paused and renegotiated.---
