Salah satu penumpang selamat menyebut kebakaran terjadi saat dirinya tengah beristirahat di dek penumpang.
Ia merasakan sesak napas akibat asap dan langsung berusaha keluar dari kerumunan penumpang yang panik.
Setelah mendapatkan rompi pelampung, ia langsung melompat ke laut dan sempat terombang-ambing selama satu jam.
