From Curiosity to Culture: Creating With AI Instead of Fearing It | Willonius Hatcher | TEDxBoston

Artificial intelligence is often framed as a threat—but what if it’s an invitation?

In this talk, comedian, creator, and cultural technologist Willonius Hatcher shares how curiosity, experimentation, and bold action led him to create BBL Drizzy—a viral AI-generated song that reshaped conversations around music, authorship, and creativity. What began as playful exploration became the first AI-sampled song to be officially credited in mainstream music history.

Hatcher reframes AI not as a shortcut or replacement for human creativity, but as a powerful amplifier of lived experience, skill, and imagination. Through humor and hard-earned insight, he challenges audiences to stop overthinking, start doing, and apply their intelligence to the most transformative tool of our time. Willonius Hatcher—also known online as King Willonius and Avocado Papi—is a comedian, creator, and cultural innovator exploring the intersection of AI, humor, and creativity. He rose to global attention after creating BBL Drizzy, a viral AI-generated song that was sampled by Drake and became the first AI-sourced track to receive an official writing credit in mainstream music.

A self-described “curious doer,” Hatcher uses AI as a creative collaborator, producing music, films, and digital art while advocating for hands-on experimentation and continuous learning. He is the founder of AI and the Culture, a New York–based community dedicated to helping creatives understand and use AI tools in meaningful, culturally resonant ways.

Through his work, Hatcher challenges fear-based narratives around AI, positioning it instead as a democratizing force—one that allows individuals to amplify their voice, transform ideas into action, and participate directly in shaping the future of culture.
