MOUSE P.I. For Hire - First 10 Minutes of Gameplay (Max Difficulty Supersleuth / No Commentary)
MOUSE: P.I. For Hire - Opening Mission #1 Full Playthrough (Big Mouse, Little Hope / Supersleuth Max Difficulty) / Mission 1 Full Completion Playthrough 4K 60FPS Max Graphic Settings. Just a quick video showing my first playthrough of the first mission in MOUSE PI For Hire, no commentary gameplay. Details and review below. This is the entire opening sequence and level of the game. At this point I've played through the entire game on max difficulty and beaten all of the bosses with no damage. I'll post both a bosses compilation and a full playthrough over the next day. As I usually do with these initial videos, I'll use this space to give my overall thoughts and review. Long story short, I had a brilliant time with it.
To start, I think the biggest divisive factor will be the black and white art style which might make people reluctant to play it. For me, I'm not a fan of black and white media, and I've never been overly huge on the classic cartoons either. Despite both of those points, I thought the game was great, and while playing I didn't even notice it being in black and white, which I think for somebody like me is a huge positive. So if you're put off by that alone, I'd suggest maybe reconsidering.
Overall the gameplay is very solid, it feels much better to play than I thought it would be from first impressions. The controls and guns are very responsive, and the movement is decently fast paced as well. It feels very much like a classic shooter, and growing up with those I was all for it. The story itself was enjoyable to follow along, not overly serious by any stretch, and filled with many, many cheese and mouse puns. It might be a little over the top for some, but for me it was the right amount and I found myself getting a laugh from a lot of the references.
The art and animations were excellent, and it truly is unique in that aspect. Which again, even as somebody who's not normally a fan of this style, I still found myself impressed by it. The music is also top tier, and I still have the songs stuck in my head. I had the content creator audio mode on to avoid copyright, but even with that enabled I didn't feel like I was missing out. Either way, you can tell a lot of love went into the game. There's many more positives I could list, and my overall experience with the game was very enjoyable. I will mention some of the downsides too.
The biggest issue I found is that there's no way to replay levels, which feels like a bit of a miss. Especially when there's collectibles scattered throughout the game, it feels particularly bad not being able to go back and collect them. I noticed that later on that I *think* you're able to purchase some of the collectibles you missed from a vendor, but that gives another problem where it feels like exploring for secrets becomes redundant. It also feels a little strange that after the final mission the game just ends and brings you to the title screen. There's no way to go back in and explore or interact with the world, or clean up any collectibles or achievements you may want to. Which was the standard for the classic shooter games, but with the way this world is built it feels like it's missing out.
There were also a couple of bugs I encountered where a few of the sidequests wouldn't work for me in the late game, and one of the achievements didn't work for completing one of the cases. These were late enough in the game that hopefully will be patched soon enough. Although I did see that people were able to 100% the game, so perhaps it was just a weird issue that only I encountered.
Regardless of that, the game was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed my time with it, and I definitely recommend it to anybody curious. If you're a fan of the style, you'll love it. If you're not a fan of the style, you might be surprised.
Lastly, in terms of difficulty, it did feel quite easy even on the max difficulty. I had almost no deaths in the entire playthrough, other than resetting bosses for no damage. I wasn't going in expecting a difficult experience in the slightest, but as a channel that usually has a lot of challenges or plays on max difficulty, I felt it was worth mentioning that aspect for those who are curious.
