JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Legenda bulu tangkis Indonesia sekaligus pahlawan Piala Thomas, Tan Joe Hok, tutup usia pada Senin (2/6), pukul 10.52 WIB di Rumah Sakit Medistra, Jakarta.Tan Joe Hok merupakan salah satu pemain bulu tangkis terbaik yang dimiliki Indonesia, berjaya pada era 1950 hingga 1960-an. Pria kelahiran 1937 ini mencetak berbagai prestasi gemilang sepanjang kariernya.
Salah satu pencapaiannya yang paling dikenang adalah saat ia menjuarai All England 1959, usai mengalahkan sesama pemain Indonesia, Ferry Sonneville, di partai final. Setahun sebelumnya, ia menjadi pilar penting dalam sejarah dengan membawa Indonesia menjuarai Piala Thomas perdana tahun 1958 di Singapura.
Prestasi lainnya datang dari ajang Asian Games 1962, saat Tan Joe Hok berhasil menyumbangkan medali emas untuk Indonesia.
