Ceuta residents destroy migrant beach camp as tensions rise in Spain
Residents of the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa destroyed a makeshift migrant camp on a beach. Locals tore down tents, threw migrants' belongings into the sea and lit a bonfire while waving Spanish flags, as migrants watched from a nearby.Earlier, protesters blocked a road next to the beach, chanting slogans including "kick out invaders." Tensions between residents and migrants have risen since a mass crossing in late July. Authorities say 5,000 people remain in Ceuta after at least 72,000 people crossed from Morocco on July 30 in a rush that left 82 migrants dead on the Spanish side of the border, with 14 more deaths confirmed by Morocco.
