ValorFit: Supporting Veterans in CrossFit Affiliates

CrossFit and ValorFit have joined forces on a mission with real stakes: getting more veterans through the doors of CrossFit gyms — and keeping them there.

Founder Troy Peterson started ValorFit, a nonprofit that pairs veterans with CrossFit gyms and covers their memberships. But the story behind it runs deeper. Called into service after 9/11, Peterson was deployed to Iraq, where he lost friends, sustained injuries, and came home a person he barely recognized. After an honorable discharge, he took a job at a Texas sheriff's office — but with no direction and no support, he spiraled into addiction to painkillers and alcohol, weight gain, and depression. At his lowest point, he attempted suicide. When he survived, his wife encouraged him to try CrossFit.

That decision changed everything. It led him to build ValorFit — so no veteran has to fight that battle alone. Watch the full story.
