La perla del desierto: el lago Bosten

El lago Bosten está situado al pie sur de las montañas Tianshan, en la región autónoma uigur de Xinjiang. Es el mayor lago interior de agua dulce de China, con una superficie de 1.646 kilómetros cuadrados. Su nombre en lengua uigur significa "oasis", y en la antigüedad también se le conocía como el "Mar del Oeste". Es, sin duda, la "perla del desierto".

Es el hábitat de numerosas aves y una escala en sus rutas migratorias. Cada primavera, cientos de miles de aves como cisnes, gansos y patos salvajes se reúnen aquí, convirtiéndolo en un paraíso para la observación de aves y la fotografía. La zona del lago cuenta con aproximadamente 40.000 hectáreas de cañaverales, siendo una de las cuatro principales zonas de producción de caña de China.
