Dopo l'incontro avvenuto a Riad tra il segretario di Stato #USA Marco Rubio e il ministro degli Esteri russo Sergej Lavrov, il presidente degli Stati Uniti ha fatto ben capire in un paio di dichiarazioni che per fare la pace ci vorrà ben altro che la guerra a oltranza. Soprattutto se con i soldi degli americani che, dice Trump, "Zelensky dice di non sapere dove siano".
Per le ipotetiche future trattative tra Russia e Ucraina, si parla di una condizione: che Zelensky acconsenta di indire le elezioni, dato che il suo mandato è scaduto a maggio 2024. "C'è la legge marziale in Ucraina", spiega Trump. "E mi dispiace doverlo dire, ma lui è al 4% di gradimento". L'incontro tra Stati Uniti e Russia non è andato giù in Occidente, che in risposta ha organizzato in fretta e furia una riunione a Parigi, dalla quale sono uscite ancora più divergenze su come agire in Ucraina (tra chi vuole mandare soldati e chi no). Se Zelensky e UE prima rifiutavano qualsiasi ipotesi di incontro con Putin, ora chiedono di non essere esclusi dal tavolo.
"Beh - risponde Trump - siete stati lì per tre anni. Avreste dovuto porre fine voi alla guerra. Anzi, non avreste dovuto farla cominciare. Avreste potuto fare un accordo".
