Intorno alla metà del Cinquecento, l’allora uomo più potente del mondo, l’imperatore Carlo V, avrebbe fatto carte false per portare Tiziano a Madrid. Vecellio, che all’epoca era già l’artista più celebre conteso della repubblica di Venezia, da cadorino verace quale era e rimase fino alla fine, oppose sempre un fermo rifiuto. L’imperatore lo aveva nominato conte palatino e cavaliere dello Sperone d’Oro con il diritto di entrare a corte, ma Tiziano non voleva diventare un cortigiano. E forse oggi la mostra che si aprirà il 18 luglio a Pieve di Cadore, il suo paese natale, spiega una parte del perché di questa scelta: per lui il paesaggio veneto non fu mai uno sfondo, ma un vero e proprio soggetto vitale, un motore di idee, una linfa di creatività.
