Buntut beredarnya foto itu, instagram nahdlatul ulama banjir kecaman dari warganet.
Publik menyayangkan pertemuan tersebut.
"Oh ngedukung zionis nih?," tulis seorang warganet.
"Kasihan para pendiri NU , sementara penerusnya gak ada empati sama perjuangan rakyat Palestina," tulis lainnya.
"BANGGA AMAT KETEMU PENJAJAH, PAKE SENYUM2 SEGALA?"
Sementara itu, Zainul Maarif yang ikut dalam pertemuan juga sempat mengunggah foto itu di akun Instagram pribadinya.
Maarif tampak berada di tengah dengan mengenakan jas berwarna abu-abu, berpeci hitam dan bercelana hitam.
Dia bersebelahan langsung dengan presiden Israel.
Dalam keterangan unggahannya, Zainul mengatakan telah berdiskusi terkait konflik Hamas-Israel.
Ia pun turut mengkritik pemboikotan yang dilakukan oleh sejumlah pihak untuk mengecam tindakan penyerangan Israel ke Gaza.
"Saya bukan demonstran, melainkan filsuf agamawan. Alih-alih demonstrasi di jalanan dan melakukan pemboikotan, saya lebih suka berdiskusi dan mengungkapkan gagasan."
Namun pasca viralnya foto tersebut, akun Instagram Maarif langsung di privat.
