Er hat sich als bayerischer Kraftmeier in Berlin inszeniert („Wir waren die Nummer eins bei der Wahl, nicht die SPD“) und die Einmaligkeit der CSU beschworen.
Und: Er hat Spitzen verteilt gegen die eigenen Leute („Merz hat es nicht leicht, er braucht unsere Hilfe und Unterstützung“).
War es am Ende eine Spitze zu viel?
Fakt ist: Der erfolgsverwöhnte Bayern-Regent muss jetzt ein Minus von 13 Prozent und mehr als 100 Gegenstimmen verdauen. Er konnte beim Parteitag in München nur noch 83,6 Prozent der Delegierten hinter sich versammeln. Als Söder sagte: „Ich bedanke mich für das Vertrauen, ich nehme die Wahl an“, klang das sehr gedrückt. Mit diesem Dämpfer hatte er offenbar nicht gerechnet.
