Da oltre 25 anni conviveva con una forma avanzata e irreversibile di sclerosi multipla. Accanto a lei il marito Stefano, che l’ha sostenuta in un lungo percorso legale per ottenere l’accesso al suicidio medicalmente assistito.
Dopo oltre due anni di ostacoli burocratici, Laura è stata la prima persona in Umbria a vedersi riconosciuto il diritto di morire nel rispetto della sentenza 242/2019 della Corte costituzionale, che stabilisce precisi criteri per l’accesso: patologia irreversibile, sofferenza intollerabile, dipendenza da trattamenti vitali e piena capacità di intendere e volere.
L’avvocato #DiPalo, intervenuto in diretta, ha ricordato che in Italia manca ancora una legge nazionale sul fine vita e che casi come quello di Laura sono possibili solo grazie alle sentenze della Corte. "Quando viene meno la dignità della vita, la persona deve poter scegliere se continuare oppure no", ha dichiarato.
Nel suo ultimo messaggio, affidato all’ #AssociazioneLucaCoscioni, di cui era consigliera, Laura ha detto: "La vita è degna se lo si vuole. Ma dobbiamo essere noi a decidere. Mi porto via sorrisi. Non vi stancate mai di combattere".
