Iran cites ‘encouraging signals’ from US ahead of Geneva talks

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says talks with the US on Iran's nuclear programme have been encouraging - ahead of another round of indirect negotiations set for Thursday in Geneva.
It follows threats of limited strikes by US President Donald Trump, to force Tehran to reach a deal.
“Iran is committed to peace and stability in the region,” Pezeshkian wrote on X.
“Recent negotiations involved the exchange of practical proposals and yielded encouraging signals. However, we continue to closely monitor US actions and have made all necessary preparations for any potential scenario,” he said.
The US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will take part in Thursday's talks in Geneva.
He says President Trump thought Iran would have buckled to the military pressure by now.
Earlier speaking to US media, Iran's Foreign Minister said a diplomatic solution with Washington over its nuclear programme is still within reach.
Trita Parsi is the Executive Vice President of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft.
He says the US may have underestimated Tehran's resolve in not bowing to pressure.
