Cambodia's debt crisis deepens as the US-Israeli war on Iran drives up fuel costs.Soaring diesel prices are worsening financial pressures on families already struggling with microloans charging up to 5 percent monthly interest.
Nearly 3.1 million of Cambodia's 3.8 million households hold microfinance debt totalling more than $18bn.
Farmers preparing to plant new crops face doubled fuel prices, forcing many to sell land or livestock. Rights groups warn that predatory lending practices and inflation are trapping vulnerable communities in an inescapable cycle of debt.
