Una folla commossa ed emozionata si è riunita nel tempio di San Nicolò per l'ultimo saluto al vigile del fuoco di 38 anni travolto da un albero lungo il Botteniga a Treviso, lasciando dietro di sé un vuoto che va ben oltre la tragedia improvvisa di giovedì sera. Nato a Milano da una famiglia originaria di Mantova, Monici viveva a Treviso dal 2015, nel quartiere di San Pelaio. Negli anni si era fatto conoscere e apprezzare per quel carattere aperto e generoso che gli amici riassumono in un’espressione semplice: «Un gigante buono». Fisico imponente, sorriso facile, una passione autentica per lo sport e per la natura che lo accompagnava fin da ragazzo. Il dramma si è consumato attorno alle 18.45 in via Botteniga, laterale di viale Luzzatti. Monici si trovava sulla riva del fiume insieme all’amico Alberto Tiveron. Entrambi, appassionati di pesca sportiva, erano assidui frequentatori di questo tratto di fiume cittadino dove l’attività ittica risulta consentita. Secondo i testimoni il pioppo si è spezzato all’improvviso, crollando verso il greto e travolgendo in pieno il 38enne. L’amico invece è stato solo sfiorato dal tronco.
